Abstract
The present study, in a very literal sense a focused exploration of Jorge’s comments regarding the ontogenetically productive role of humiliation and violence within the Peregrinação, has at its center a concern with what I see as a series of masochistic rituals encoded within Mendes Pinto’s narrative.
